Having trouble migrating your data from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop? QuickBooks now has three options for you to complete the process:
Option 1 – Use the QuickBooks Desktop Migration Tool
If you’re a QuickBooks ProAdvisor, there is a new QuickBooks Desktop migration tool that is available for your use. With the exception of Internet Explorer 11, it supports all modern browsers. It’s important to keep in mind, however, that there are some limitations when it comes to converting to QuickBooks Desktop.
ProAdvisors can download and use the QuickBooks Desktop migration tool and refer to the full instructions here.
Option 2 – Use a 3rd Party Application
QuickBooks Online users can also utilize third-party applications to export their data. Third-party applications typically charge a fee for their service, so you’ll want to shop around for one that will suit your needs and price range.
Option 3 – Restore a converted QuickBooks Desktop file
If you recently converted from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online and you’re having a change of heart, you have the option to restore the file you converted. However, you’ll need to re-enter any missing transactions that occur during the conversion. You can export your lists and balances from QuickBooks Online and import them into a new QuickBooks Desktop file. Specific instructions can be found here.
Things to keep in mind before you convert…
- If you use Multicurrency in QuickBooks Online, you should not convert to QuickBooks Desktop. Your data will not export correctly.
- A recent version of QuickBooks Desktop installed on your computer is required before you start. If you don’t have a recent version installed, feel free to grab a trial to download and use.
